Locals and visitors came out in droves to take part in the annual Fall Festival at Heckscher Park. The annual Long Island Fall Festival took place in Huntington’s Hecksher Park over Columbus Day weekend!Festivities began with carnival rides, live music, and a food court full of delicious treats on Friday, with all kinds of vendors lining the park inside and out on Friday and Saturday. The fun continued on Monday as the carnival and food court were open to entertain guests for a fourth straight day!
Two main stages, one near the carnival and another next to all the vendors, allowed for many local bands to come out and play one great set after another for all the Huntington residents and visitors who came out to the park over the weekend, and the music didn’t stop there. A few musicians set up shop next to a coffee tent adjacent to Heckscher Museum on Sunday, providing
a relaxing coffee shop vibe for anyone who wanted to sit down with a hot drink and mellow music. Several street performers, including an enthusiastic young saxophonist, came to play across from all the vendors outside of the park.
A great many vendors were in attendance, selling toys for kids, scented soaps and candles, colorful flowers, locally sourced honey, flavored pickles, and all manner of handmade crafts. Attendees looking for a warm meal had choices ranging from smoked turkey legs and pulled pork to fried clams and delectable stuffed crepes. Those looking for something a bit sweeter were able to indulge in zeppole, hot apple pie e la mode, and freshly baked cinnamon buns.
On Sunday Huntington also celebrated Columbus Day with a parade marching down Main Street. Representatives from the Sons of Italy marched alongside flag twirlers, classic cars, and bands from many of the nearby school districts.
After the parade, dozens of people filled the craft beer and wine tent, supping on local microbrews while watching football on several TVs that had been brought into the park. The day may not have gone well for the Jets after the first quarter, but a lively atmosphere filled the tent nonetheless and it remained packed during the evening game.
Despite some heavy downpours Saturday morning, the festival attracted countless people all weekend long. With carnival rides, delicious food, hot coffee, local beer, and plenty of vendors, there was something for everyone to enjoy!
