RealtyTrac: New York State March 2014 total foreclosures down from February and year-ago levels

In its U.S. Foreclosures Market Report for March 2014, which reports default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, RealtyTrac Inc. reported that New York State had 3,681 total foreclosures, a 1.76-percent decrease from February and a 31.49-percent decrease from the same time last year.

New York State ranks 35 out of all 50 states for monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 2,201 housing units in New York State received a foreclosure filing in March.

Foreclosure filings were reported nationally on 117,485 U.S. properties in March. This is an increase of 4.43 percent from February, but is down 22.96 percent from March 2013. Nationally, one in every 1,121 housing units received a foreclosure filing.
